Sunbeds

The sunbeds around the pool are free of charge for hotel customers. Regarding the beach sunbeds, the following fees apply:

Note: Reservations for sunbeds are available only for the next day. Please do not reserve sunbeds simultaneously at both the beach and the pool.

Reserving sunbeds by leaving towels or personal belongings is not allowed.

Breaf History Outline

Discover the history of Lefkada island

7th century BC. Lefkada was a colony of the Corinthians who first tunneled the channel to take their ships further north. Southeast, 2.5 km from what is today the town of Lefkada, between the villages of Kalligoni and Kariotes, was what was then the capital of the island, Nirikos, which was the designated capital of the People of Akarnania from 272 till 197 BC, when it was conquered by the Romans.

It took part in the Battle of Salamis, the Battle of Plataea and the Peloponnesian War (allied to the Spartans). In 338 BC it was taken by Philip of Macedon. It resisted against the Romans and was finally overcome after a heroic defense (2nd century BC).

  • 1204: The island was incorporated into the Signiory of Epirus.
  • 1294: The Despot of Epirus, Nikiforos I, married his daughter Maria to Ioannis Orsini (later “Ruler of Kefallonia, Zakynthos and Lefkada”), giving Lefkada as dowry. Orsini built the core of the castle which now stands at the entrance to the island, on the coast of Akarnania, which was the medieval capital of Agia Mavra.
  • 1331–1362: The island was taken by the Andegavoi, of which the place name “Anbtzousis” is a vestige.
  • 1357: Rebellion of the villagers of Lefkada against the French Gratianos Georgis (resulting in the myth of “Fotinos” written by Aristotle Valaoritis).
  • 1362–1479: The island passed into the hands of the Turks.
  • 1479: The island was conquered by the Ottomans.
  • 1502–1503: A short Venetian occupation.
  • 1503–1684: The island was reconquered by the Turks.
  • 1684–1797: The island came under the control of the Venetians once again, with the interruption of Turkish rule between 1715–1716. The capital of the island was relocated from the castle in Amaxiki to where it stands today.
  • 1797: The island was under the Democratic French.
  • 1789–1807: Russian–Turkish occupation. From 1802 it became part of the State of the Ionian Islands (Eptanision), the first semi-independent Greek state (under Russian-Turkish “protection”) after the fall of the Byzantine Empire.
  • 1807–1810: Came under the power of the Imperial French.
  • 1810: Passed to the British who incorporated it into the State of the Ionian Islands.
  • 1819: Rebellion of the villagers of Lefkada. Suppression, persecution (hangings and similar punishments). The inhabitants of Lefkada took part in the 1821 Greek Revolution.
  • 1864: Unified with Greece, along with the other Ionian Islands.
